Picture perfect bones

Benjamin had a wonderful check up yesterday. Dr Mosca is so happy that Benjamin's bone is on track with the amount of turns we have done on the fixator. With my calculations, we will be to our target minimum length around Benjamin's 9th birthday at the end of May.

Here are the things that we are thankful for:

*pin sites look amazing and our regiment seems to be working well for both our doctors and our family

*his bones are responding well to the lengthening both in moving at the right pace and the calcification happening in the right spot and at the correct rate

*range of motion his knee is satisfactory-because of the placement of his pin, it is ok that he is not at 90 degree angle but needs to maintain his current range (55) or slightly increase (60) as his femur is lengthened!

*Benjamin tolerated everything in the appointment well. He even had to hold his other leg up funny in the air while taking his x-rays and was a champ.

After our appointment, we enjoyed a nice sit down lunch at BOOM and went to the Seattle Aquarium where he enjoyed the ramps in his wheelchair more than the sea creatures. Later, on our way out of Seattle, we stopped at Dick's to get him a burger, fry and rootbeer float for the ride home.

Our next check will be in two weeks. I am actually looking forward to it. My favorite part was looking at his x-rays. It was surreal to look at Benjamin's x-rays from the day of the operation when they had just placed the fixator. I have seen so many of them before, just not on my child's leg. It was exciting to see the change in his bones. To look back on the past three weeks is absolutely amazing (highs, lows, challenges, mini celebrations). I would hope that after this experience, I won't take things for granted especially simple things like Benjamin getting dressed, going to the bathroom, bathing, getting into the car and going to school. This experience will have changed us all!
