Benjamin was inspired to draw dragons again. I was happy to see him pursuing art. He is a naturally talented artist like his Dad. Benjamin and I headed to Seattle for his normal 2 week check. We have not been on top of physical therapy as we had been so yesterday's appointment was not very fun but he is still tolerating it.
~knee range of motion is acceptable
~bone length 33mm (remember goal of 50mm or 5cm)
~great alignment of new bone and width
~pin sites all ok except one is looking a little suspicious so we will clean now 3 times a day and start preventive medication
If all goes smoothly, we will recheck in 2 more weeks and almost be close to our goal. As we get closer, it gets harder for his soft tissues to stretch. It is also more difficult for his pins sites because the pins are slowly cutting into his skin as we lengthen.
When we get to our goal length, we will start the solidification stage. He will continue to have the fixator. We will make a new lift on his shoe to fill in the exact discrepancy. Dr. Mosca will at some point allow Benjamin to partially bear weight. This will help his bone solidify and also bridge the gap for Benjamin to relearn how to walk again (for the 4th time).
We still have highs and lows but Benjamin is a trooper. I am fighting a bad germ right now so I am off to bed before the alarm goes off at midnight. Benjamin will be celebrating his 9th birthday in a few weeks. It will be different but we hope to still make it special! Thank you for your prayers, phone calls and words of encouragement.
