Benjamin had a great sense of humor until the cast actually came off. He was ssooo brave and calm for the VERY loud saw. Once the cast was popped open like a nut being cracked and gauze was all cut away it was very exposing and he felt uncomfortable. Being enclosed in a cast for that long over that much of your body, it's difficult even feeling air blow across your skin. His xrays were amazing and Dr. Mosca was impressed with how well he is healing. I was pretty impressed too! His bone graft is healing so well that he wants to take the pins out early, like next week (maybe Tuesday)! Fun things to look forward to...another surgery at Children's. That just means more legos for Benjamin the Brave, right?
Benjamin has two scars. His hip was stitched with regular stitches but his knee surgical area was closed with surgical glue. Both are looking fabulous. Overall, Benjamin is doing wonderfully. He will need to take his time to bear any weight or even bend at a 90 degree angle. We still have his wheelchair and he still prefers to be fully reclined. His body is extremely sensitive and stiff. Even the slightest wrong move causes discomfort.
It will just take time and lots of patience. Before we know it, Benjamin will be begging us to go in the front yard to kick a soccer with him. All in all it was a great monumental day for us. I am always reminded how great our family does have it! Even a perfect stranger at the hospital told me that Benjamin IS brave and I smiled with pride and nodded my head yes!
Marvelous! Hurray for Benjamin!
