The longest day

Wow! This day has had so many peaks and valleys it feels like that it drug on for an eternity. I think that when my head finally hits the pillow tonight, I may completely fall apart. Benjamin is strong, very strong. He proved his name once again. This morning was difficult, extremely difficult. If you have ever seen a loved one in pain and had a visceral response, you can imagine the morning we had. We saw glimpses of Benjamin's past medical trauma come and go. We saw how Benjamin reacts to difficult procedures (PTSD)  and therapies. Ultimately, we chose to have Benjamin weaned off of the heavy pain medication and we have seen an improvement in mood and attitude.

*Benjamin is currently taking only Tylenol for pain
*Benjamin realized this afternoon how strong he is and how much he can move his own body to reposition himself
*Benjamin learned how to swallow pills which is much better than yucky liquid stuff
*Benjamin's heart through this all is still sweet and caring. When he earned a reward from the nurse for hard work, he chose to pick something instead for his sister to bring home and surprise her (the nurse was extremely impressed and rushed out to the hall to tell us what he had done for Zoe--we were proud parent's!!!)

We have gotten such wonderful encouraging words from people near and far. Benjamin loves it and Ryan and I are also encouraged by it as well. The pillow is calling my name.
